CAMP GLEN SPEY RESIDENT PARENT GUIDE 2010

Want to make new friends? Improve your swimming skills? Learn horseback riding?  Girls ages 5-17 can do all of these things and so much more at Girl Scout summer camp.

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey’s resident camp, Camp Glen Spey is located in Glen Spey, N.Y., minutes from Port Jervis. The 600-acre camp includes a 70-acre heart-shaped lake, beautiful hiking trails, a playing field, three lodges, and raised platform tents. The facilities have flush toilets and hot showers. Girls arrive for four one-week sessions on Monday morning and stay five nights until Saturday morning. Camp Glen Spey offers new programs this year including a Camp Getaway for girls who want to try resident camp, archery, fashion design, whitewater rafting, and waterfront programs that take girls out in funyaks, canoes and rowboats.

The popular Travel Camp program is back and offers girls the opportunity to experience all three GSNNJ outdoor properties in one unique camp session. Girls will spend two nights at Jockey Hollow Camp, where they will enjoy pool swimming and the Low Ropes Challenge Course. Then campers will head for Lake Rickabear, where they will enjoy miniature golf, duckpin bowling and kayaking. After spending their third night in tents or yurts, the girls will travel to Camp Glen Spey for lake swimming, archery, cooking out, hiking, dancing and a talent show. Travel Camp is offered during two weeks in July to girls in grades 6 through 8.

Camp Glen Spey open houses will be held Sundays, April 11, and May 16 from 1 to 3 p.m.

All three Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey facilities are accredited with the American Camp Association and all swim lessons are provided by certified lifeguards meeting American Red Cross standards. Camp fees include transportation to and from the camp, with bus stops in a number of towns around northern New Jersey.

Camp registration is currently accepted by mail or in person at any of the three service centers.
