Want to make new friends? Improve your swimming skills? Learn horseback riding?  Girls ages 5-17 can do all of these things and so much more at Girl Scout summer camp. 

 

Lake Rickabear is located in Kinnelon and runs from July 5 through August 20. Girl from grades 1 through 12 can choose between one- or two-week sessions at the 332-acre property, which includes a 40-acre, spring-fed lake. Traditional camp activities such as nature, arts and crafts, sports, music, outdoor adventure, swimming, and boating are offered each week with additional theme events unique to each session. Lake Rickabear also offers the Teen Adventure program for girl entering grades 8 through 12. This program includes a special teen overnight and planned excursion for each session. Counselor in Training and Junior Lifeguard opportunities are also offered to girls in grades 10 through 12.

 

Lake Rickabear Summer Day Camp open houses will be Sundays, Apr. 18, May 16, and June 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. 

All three Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey facilities are accredited with the American Camp Association and all swim lessons are provided by certified lifeguards meeting American Red Cross standards. Lake Rickabear offers eight courtesy bus routes to and from the camp, with bus stops in a number of towns around northern New Jersey.

Camp registration is currently accepted by mail at any of the three service centers.

Walk-in registration is accepted at any of GSNNJ’s three service centers in Paramus, Randolph, and Riverdale.

 
LAKE RICKABEAR - General Information

Lake Rickabear is a 332 acre site located in a woodlands area of New Jersey.It is operated to provide opportunities for girls (without regard to race, religion, national origin or socio-economic status) to discover nature and explore activities for growth and development during group living situations.

A 40 acre spring fed lake with 700 feet of sandy beach offers three swimming areas.
Lodges, cabins, yurts, and platform tents are available for camping opportunities. Pitch your own tent sites are located close to shower houses and bathrooms.

Facilities equipped for those w/physical disabilities.

 

DAY USE:provides opportunities for girls to experience activities in an outdoor environment after school or on Saturday, Sunday, holidays, and can be scheduled through the council service center at least three weeks in advance of the date planned.click here

TROOP CAMPING: can be scheduled year round and should provide girls with a fun and educational group living experience that links Girl Scout Program with the natural surroundings and contributions to each camper's mental, physical, social and spiritual growth.click here

DAY CAMP: is scheduled every summer for girls to grow through a Girl Scout program experience.  Brochures are distributed to registered Girl Scouts and are available at the council service center.  The brochure can also be viewed on line on the summer camp page.

GROUP USE: can be arranged for companies, schools, houses of worship and organizations on a contractual basis.  A group use brochure is available from the council service center.click here

FAMILY FUN:  Family Swim and Picnic and Family Camping is available on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends for Girl Scout families and the general public.
